Dear Mrs. Thornton,

In September a Year 4 boy in my class refused to read aloud. By July he led our class assembly with a poem he'd written himself. That arc — from withdrawn to confident — is what I want to keep building, and it's why I'm applying for the Year 4 teacher post at Redland Green Junior.

I'm currently phonics lead at my school; we lifted our Year 1 screening pass rate from 78% to 94% in two years. I also run a Saturday reading club for our EAL families, which I saw aligns with your inclusion priorities in this year's SEF.

I can come in for an observation and a chat with the children any Thursday or Friday afternoon. References from my Head and Deputy are ready on request.

Warm regards,

Hannah Bennett · hannah.bennett@example.com

Writing tips

  • Open with a single classroom moment, not a generic 'I love teaching'.
  • Mention the year group, key stage, and any subject leadership.
  • Reference the school's SEF or recent Ofsted priorities.
  • Close with availability for observation and references.
